There's a rough planning doc for his verse here if you're curious, but in summary: Robin, age 19, ris an introverted, unmotivated internet technician with a lot of idealistic feelings he has no idea how to act on. He grew up in a city-state consisting of several connected domes on the bottom of the ocean. It's slightly futuristic compared to the real world, and it's existed for 500 years. There's limited public knowledge about why, and issues of wealth disparity and government corruption. His sister died 3 years prior to the beginning of the story in the "accidental" collapse of one of the domes. Her husband and small children now live along with Robin at his parents' home.
Due to some shenanigans, Robin ends up finding out his sister was involved in a secret society trying to go discover what lies above the ocean. In order to fulfill her dreams in her stead he joins them, and through some really unfun shenanigans ends up doing just that, escaping the city along with three friends.
On the surface, the group finds that the same 500-years-past war that drove their own ancestors to the bottom of the sea had wiped out modern civilization above, and reintroduced magic that had been gone for eons. It's a medieval fantasy world now, and the protagonists have to learn to survive in it. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances and a fateful meeting with a possessed sword, Robin unwittingly becomes the hero in the three-way conflict between sea dwellers, surface dwellers, and the "demons" coming into this world from another plane.
It's a ridiculous fantasy story about a shy but generally good-hearted young man overcoming his awkwardness and using the power of aggressive friendship to save three different societies.
